Vertigo is described as a spinning sensation of either the person or the things around him. Vertigo can be caused by trauma to the head or neck. Let’s take a closer look at three conditions that have vertigo as one of their major symptoms and then discuss where to find the right kind of help.

Reasons for Vertigo

Neurological conditions: Vertigo is a symptom of a number of different neurological conditions such as:

  • Stroke
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Brain hemorrhage

Other symptoms often present include:

  • Double vision
  • Problems controlling arms and legs
  • Disequilibrium
  • Numbness and weakness in the facial muscles

Acoustic neuroma: The vestibular nerve connects the ear to the brain and is responsible for one’s balance. If a benign tumor grows on this nerve, acoustic neuroma results. This is usually a slow growing tumor; however, if it grows quickly, it can cause intracranial pressure and other serious complications. Symptoms associated with this condition are:

  • Tinnitus
  • Disequilibrium
  • Dizziness
  • Progressive hearing loss

Vestibular migraines: This type of a migraine may not be accompanied by a headache. Rather, its main component is dizziness as the vestibular system is affected and is responsible for one’s balance. Vertigo is often accompanied by sensitivity to light and sound.

A Solution to Vertigo

The majority of the time, vertigo is not as serious as mentioned above. Thankfully, it is not something you have to learn to live with. There is a solution available that is drug and side effect free. Here at Lazar Spinal Care of Ann Arbor, Michigan, we have seen much success in helping our vertigo patients.

We understand how a misalignment in the bones of the upper neck is often to blame for vertigo. We employ a gentle method to help the bones to realign more naturally without cracking or forcing the spine. Modern advances in technology help us to find the tiny misalignments that are causing the problem. Once corrected, vertigo often improves or goes away completely.
